While there are still many uses for MiniDV, I am concentrating more and more on moving towards an entirely HD workflow. I have been spending a lot of time researching various HD solutions that are cost-effective, but that will actually work. Cutting down on rendering times and increasing editing speed is a very high priority. If you’re thinking along these same lines, DV Magazine has a great article evaluating the different options for building an HD workstation. The article breaks down an HD workstation into three tiers. Each tier is based on what kind of money you have to spend, ranging from the editor who just needs enough to get by to a full configured pro workstation. The range is from around $7,600 to $25,500. There’s also a $14,000 system geared towards indie filmmakers.  [source]
