Panasonic announces new HD camcorders

Japan always gets the cool stuff first! I love tiny camcorders and I geek out over them even more when they are HD. Panasonic has announced 2 new cameras that are definitely intriguing: The HDC-SD3 and HDC-DX3. Both cameras shoot in the AVCHD format (Advanced Video Codec High Definition) and capture 1920 x 1080 “full HD” video. This is the highest resolution of any AVCHD camera yet, however due to the format itself, the footage will still be compressed at the same rate as earlier cameras. It’s too early to predict what kind of effect this will have on the actual image. These cameras will hit the streets of Japan on April 25th, but a North American release has not been announced. Still, these are the types of new HD cameras we have to look forward to.
