Indebted
-
A man with mounting personal problems finds a reason to live in writer/director/star Jose Rosete’s character sketch Indebted.
I liked Rosete’s performance, essentially an extended monologue, and think the technical execution was capable. But Indebted is essentially a calling card for Rosete’s acting talent, and while that is an admirable goal, leaves something lacking in the storytelling. There is just not of a fully-realized worldview on display for a viewer to immerse himself in; it is as if the story being told doesn’t extend much outside the video frame.
A salt-shaker’s worth of supporting performances and an appropriate musical score provide modest help.
But I do think Rosete displays talent on both sides of the camera, though challenging himself with more dazzling scripting and production values will only improve his own resume as well as viewer’s satisfaction levels.
Two and a half stars.
